Today is the endurance test, we did pretty well in the autocross but dreadful in the skidpad because we had no time to set up the car at all because we struggled for hours and hours trying to pass noise. It is also suppose to rain all day so that’s going to be fun. Anyways, here’s another pic of our car because it is pretty darn good looking.

Sick. I’m always surprised at how high the roll bars is on these. Would it benefit aero and cog at all to have the driver in more of a lay flat position to be able to bring that down a bit?

I’m probably gonna join the UT FSAE team next year. I rather look forward to it.

Since you’re sponsored by PTC, do you happen to use CREO?

You are very correct, the drivers position also effects Cg. However, there are template rules, and the cars have super short wheelbases, the drivers feet are already in front of the front wheels, so there is only so far you can go.

Sorry for stalking your posts. :P

I’m going to Purdue as a freshman this fall and am set on joining FSAE. When do you guys start up and is there anyone I should email in advance? Also, I’m planning on studying aero and I heard that most people are mechanical. Is there anyone else doing aero and is it okay with FSAE that I am planning on it?

Haha, you’re all good man. I can actually answer all that stuff (was a freshman last year). We are actually doing the occasional summer test of our car right now but come the start of the year you’ll see some flyers and stuff around campus regarding a callout you may also see us with the car during BGR week doing recruitment. So, don’t worry about emailing anybody right now. I’m a Materials Engineer and am on the composites team (building the wings and bodywork and some chassis) and we work very closely with the Areo team that designs all the aerodynamics on the car. So there are certainly places for aero guys! No worries haha. But more than just doing something that relates to your *potential* major, just do on the team what you’re interested in. I planned on being a mechanical engineer up until two weeks ago but plans changed and I entered MSE :p

I hope that answered some of your questions. And feel free to ask me any questions you have about first year engineering or anything Formula related. Also... please please please make sure you’re enrolled in ENGR 133 (the EPICS class) instead of ENGR 131/132. You will thank me later.

Thank you! You definitely answered all of the questions I have so far. I was actually at Purdue yesterday for registration and am required to take ENGR 131 for the Global Engineering learning community. I might email my adviser to see if I could switch into the EPICS class instead, but I don’t think I’ll be able to.

Edit: Actually I was wondering when FSAE met/worked on the car. I have 8:30 AM and 4:30 PM classes, but not much in the middle of the day basically everyday. I didn’t know if people met mainly during the day, or later at night.
